Expo 2005 is
happening at a time when Asia is beginning to play a very important
role in the international community. Seto, Japan has been selected
to host the 2005 World Exposition (only the fourth World Exposition
to be held in Asia during the past 150 years) and will use this
opportunity to promote the Asian perspective to a multi-cultural
world. The theme for Expo 2005 - "Natures Wisdom"
should provide for some very interesting debates between
people representing various cultures. Take for example the traditional
Japanese belief that "wisdom" or gods are located throughout
nature (in trees, mountains, bodies of water, etc.) This belief
seems to contrast with the general Western idea that wisdom does
not physically exist in the natural environment but inside the minds
of humans or a single God. People from different cultural backgrounds
will no doubt provide many helpful interpretations of the Expo 2005
main theme. This is a result of the 2005 World Exposition being
concerned with conserving nature and enhancing lifestyles in the
context of multicultural collaboration.
Multi-cultural
interpretations of the "Natures Wisdom" theme will
revolve around ideas of economics, technologies, and even the arts
and crafts. "Natures Wisdom" isnt about leaving
development behind, but about creating new cultural attitudes and
technologies to make development beneficial for both humans and
the natural environment that we share on a global scale.
